THE MOST HOLY EUCHARIST:
THE SACRIFICE OF CHRIST AND THE HEART OF THE CHURCH
We continue our journey through Sacrosanctum Concilium with Day Four, covering Sections 47-58: “The Most Sacred Mystery of the Eucharist.” Having established the principles that must govern authentic liturgical reform, the Council now turns to the center of the Church’s liturgical life – the Most Holy Eucharist.
This doctrinal foundation is essential. We cannot understand participation if we forget the Immaculate Victim offered upon the altar. We cannot understand the sacred banquet if we separate it from Calvary. And we cannot properly evaluate liturgical reform unless we first understand the sacred reality that every reform must serve.
That is the deepest purpose of our participation in the Holy Mass. We come not simply to observe, receive information, or fulfill an obligation. We come to unite our prayers, sufferings, repentance, gratitude, families, vocations, and entire lives to the perfect offering of Jesus Christ.
May this study deepen our faith in the mystery of the altar and teach each of us to offer ourselves more completely with Christ.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.
God bless you as we continue.
