O Father of mercies and Lord of life, we place into Thy hands this mother and the child she bears.

Thou art the giver of life and the guardian of all whom Thou hast made. Look with kindness upon this mother, granting her strength, peace, and trust in Thy care.

Protect the child formed within her womb. Preserve this little one according to Thy loving will, and bring both mother and child safely through the time of birth.

May this child, received as a gift of Thy goodness, be welcomed with gratitude, be nourished in faith, and be reborn in the waters of Baptism, and come to know and love Jesus Christ our Lord.

We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.

“And after they were departed, behold an angel of the Lord appeared in sleep to Joseph, saying: Arise, and take the child and his mother, and fly into Egypt: and be there until I shall tell thee. For it will come to pass that Herod will seek the child to destroy him.” (Matthew 2:13)

PRAYER

O God, from whom all fatherhood in heaven and on earth takes its name, look with mercy upon (name), who now awaits the birth of his child.

Grant him prudence in judgment, firmness in resolve, and fidelity in the duties entrusted to him. Strengthen him to guard the life given into his care, to provide with diligence, to lead with humility, and to love with sacrifice.

Preserve him from fear and discouragement. Root his heart in trust, steady his steps in trial, and form him according to Your holy will.

May he fulfill his calling with reverence and perseverance, and may his home be ordered to truth, charity, and peace.
